TroikaTronix will host a series of free mini-workshops – as well as a three-day workshop intensive for artists –taught by Isadora’s creator Mark Coniglio this May and June in Berlin, Germany.

Workshop attendance is limited to 15 participants maximum. If you wish to attend, please send us a mail using this form.

Isadora Mini Workshop: The Basics – FREE!
29 May 2013 / 18 – 20h / Berlin

This workshop will introduce the core functions of Isadora: how to play, layer and project video imagery, and how to organize that imagery into a series scenes that can be cued by the operator. We will also demonstrate how use Isadora’s keystoning features to achieve simple but flexible video mapping.

Isadora Mini Workshop: Interactivity – FREE!
5 June 2013 / 18- 20h / Berlin

What sets Isadora apart from other media servers is it’s focus on interactive control. In this workshop we will explore a variety of interactive sensing possibilities including camera tracking, Wii controllers and iPad/iPhone. You will learn how the actions of a performer (or operator) can control generation and/or manipulation of video, sound and light.

Isadora Mini Workshop: 3D – FREE!
12 June 2013 / 18 – 20h / Berlin

Isadora provides the real-time, interactive rendering of 3D models. In this workshop, we will show you how you can capitalize on these 3D features to create compelling interactive imagery that is generated in real-time – either by using generative systems or in response to the actions of performers on the stage.

Interactive Digital Media for Live Performance – 150€
26 – 28 June 2013 / 11 – 17h / Berlin

This workshop is designed for artists who wish to incorporate interactive video, sound or light into the live performance they create. Designed for choreographers, composers, theater directors, or scenographers who want to use these digital forms in an artistically compelling way, this workshop will introduce you to the software tool Isadora® – Coniglio’s powerful yet artist-friendly software tool that allows you to quickly and effectively add interactive elements to your creations.

During the three day workshop, participants will learn to create simple but compelling interactive setups using Isadora. The focus of this workshop will not be technical. Instead, we will consider the real-world compositional problems of the participants and respond to these by introducing features that address these concerns in an artistically compelling way. The participants will leave the workshop with a basic, solid knowledge of the software that can be put into practice immediately. (All students will receive a complimentary three-month license to the software so that they may continue their experiments after the workshop’s conclusion.)

While Isadora is very friendly and easy to learn, applicants should nevertheless be comfortable working with computers. (We encourage you to prepare for the workshop by exploring the online video tutorials for Isadora.)

The language of the workshops will be English.

Composer and media artist Mark Coniglio receives prestigious award recognizing his visionary contribution to art and technology.

NEW YORK, October 23, 2012: The World Technology Network, in association with CNN, TIME, Technology Review, and Science, awarded composer and media artist Mark Coniglio the 2012 World Technology Award in the category of the Arts at a ceremony at the Time & Life Building in New York City.

The award recognizes “innovative work of the greatest likely long-term significance.” Coniglio’s award in the arts category recognized his contribution as a composer, media artist and co-founder of the performance group Troika Ranch; as the creator of the interactive media-software Isadora; and for his contribution as a teacher who has shared his aesthetic vision and technical know-how through innumerable workshops across the globe.

Of his award, Coniglio said “I’m thrilled to receive this wonderful honor. I’ve spent my life exploring the intersection of art and media, trying to find ways to use computer technology to more deeply express the human experience. To have that journey acknowledged by the WTN is truly gratifying.”

The new WTN Fellows and Corporate Members were officially inducted into the WTN membership during a gala ceremony at the Time & Life Building in New York City, where the winners were announced. The Awards gala occurred at the close of the World Technology Summit, a two-day “thought leadership” conference held in association with the WTN’s partner organizations.

The World Technology Awards have been presented by the WTN since 2000, as a way to honor those in 20 different categories of science and technology and related fields. The annual World Technology Awards nomination process is an intensive global one, lasting many months. The Award nominee pool this year of over 600 nominees came from three sources: names put forward by the WTN Fellows (winners and finalists from previous annual Award cycles in the individual Award categories); research by the WTN staff; and, to a lesser extent, from nominations from individuals and companies themselves.

The WTN is a curated membership community comprised of the world’s most innovative individuals and organizations in science, technology, and related fields. The WTN and its members – those creating the 21st century — are focused on exploring what is imminent, possible, and important in and around emerging technologies.

Legendary film director Francis Ford Coppola will use Isadora to expand cinematic viewing into an interactive, live experience with his new film, Twixt.

Widely acknowledged as one of Hollywood’s most innovative and influential film directors, Francis Ford Coppola plans to use Isadora® as the media server for the live version of his new film TWIXT.

During a “dress rehearsal” at Comic Con On July 23rd, he demonstrated how he intends to use Isadora to interactively select clips and “remix” the movie in front of a live audience during a multi-city tour.

Describing his vision for the TWIXT project in USA Today, Coppola said: “Because cinema is now electronic and digital, it is no longer a long strip of celluloid that has to go the way it was determined… Because a film is made up of digital files it means the director, if he were there and wanted to take the time to go to each show, he could essentially change the experience to suit the audience.”

Isadora’s creator Mark Coniglio has been working closely with the team at Coppola’s studio American Zoetrope to develop specific new functionality to facilitate the TWIXT project. These new features will appear publicly in the upcoming Isadora Pro, which is scheduled for released in November 2011.

Hannover, Germany – Isadora creator Mark Coniglio created a shimmering and dynamic interactive performance piece for the gala opening ceremony of CeBit, Europe’s most important trade show for new technology.

Under direction of the Berlin based communications and event agency Insglück, Coniglio used signature techniques developed for his performance group Troika Ranch to create an interactive interpretation of the CeBit 2012 theme, “Managing Trust.” (See the video – the performance starts at 1m26s.)

Delicate clouds, bits of text, and bursts of electricity emerged from the bodies of artists Duo MainTenanT as they flew through the air, adding a high-tech touch to the couple’s high-powered acrobatics. Isadora was the engine behind this video accompaniment, tracking the couple on stage and generating the real-time imagery in response to their movement.

Technically, Isadora’s tracking module Eyes++ worked in tandem with its 3D particle generation capability and other built-in features to generate the imagery that accompanied the performers.

A tech-saavy audience of nearly 2000 – including the chancellor of Germany, the president of Brazil, and CEO of Google – cheered as the performers and Coniglio’s interactive creation fused together in the climatic moment of the performance.
